The requirements for future connectors are nothing more than faster, smaller, smarter and more environmentally friendly. However, each sub-industry has a different focus. For example, the automotive industry needs to ensure the reliability and high quality of connectors in harsh environments. For the consumer electronics industry, lightness and compactness are the most important, followed by reliability. But the reliability of the two is not the same level. To a certain extent, the speed of consumer electronics product innovations determines two other special requirements: controlling costs and shortening the development cycle.
In addition to technical iterations, the regional distribution of connectors has also tilted to varying degrees as the market share changes. Over the years, global connector production capacity has begun to shift to Asia, especially China. Some analysts believe that Asia has become the most promising place for the connector market, and China is expected to become the world's fastest-growing and largest-capacity connector market.
In the past, most connector suppliers made more use of China's low production costs, and now they are thinking more about how to serve this emerging market. TE’s answer is to transform the original “rely on Made in China” model to “made in China”.
